The Aborigines are the oldest continuous culture on the planet. Hundreds of diverse tribes who made the harsh environment of Australia their home, lived in peace and harmony with the outback lands for 60,000 years. In 1788 hundreds of thousands died of disease and systematic genocide brought by the Europeans which was a great tragedy shattering much of the sacred spirit held by the tribes. Out of the original 250,000 Aborigines people, only 30,000-60,000 survived leaving fractured family systems and communities. Children were taken from their families to become "civilized" as part of The Lost Generations in attempts to erase their culture.
Aborigines were artists, healers, hunters and nomads of the deserts- with a deep connection to the medicine of the earth and their ancestors. "Time, space, and the ancestor deities are fused into a constant presence. These powers still rule from the natural sites they now inhabit. Any tree, rock, and body of water that could house a spirit from the dreamtime is sacred. Thus, aborigines are spiritually as well as materially connected to the land and strive to live in harmony with it." (source) It is said they have no word to express ownership, everything is communal and shared. They live for each other. This profound bond allows for a deeper state of connection and understanding. The Aboriginal system of healing is simple and profound. There are 5 elements to healing according to the ancient wisdom of these deeply connected people: willingness, awareness, acceptance, empowerment and focus.
Healing requires willingness. Not just a willingness to get better physically, emotionally and mentally, but a true and honest willingness to change. To change our behaviors, our beliefs, our thought patterns which created the disease, situation, or negative pattern. This is not just about thinking you are willing to change on a conscious level. You must truly explore how deep your attachment to the illness, pattern, or situation goes. If you are not willing to let go of the illness, situation or pattern, then healing will not be complete. You can do all the healing work in the world, but it is ultimately a choice, to be willing to change, let go (surrender), and allow that healing to take place.
Forgiveness is a part of awareness. Without forgiveness we cannot release the root of our own patterns and issues. There is no need to hold onto something once you have learned the lesson. The lesson becomes a part of you, and that is all that it needed to do. To release it requires forgiveness. This is not about making excuses for poor behavior, unkindness, or cruelty. However, forgiveness is only possible if you can move beyond judgment. To realize that hurt people hurt people- these people who hurt you, were hurting too. This does not justify it, but helps us draw context around the situation. A deeper awareness can see that this pain caused them to reflect that pain, to project that hurt onto us. This was not something you deserved. This is not something that was your fault. But perhaps through understanding that ultimately this hurt was an act of someone who did not understand how to love, who did not feel love, who felt lost, scared, and misunderstood themselves, which is sad, and through that you may find the compassion to free yourself, and them, through forgiveness.
Acceptance is the next step. Once we have done the work to identify the emotional core, the root of the issue, now we have to accept what that has shown us and created in our life. This means accepting the pain, the illness, the situation itself, gratefully. These are gifts to help us grow and evolve. They are opportunities to transform ourselves and heal deeply. It is important to acknowledge and accept that opportunity and gift. If it was not for these signs and messages our body and life are telling, us we would never change. Change is the whole point. Growth is the whole point. The discomfort is what propels us to seek deeper wholeness, balance, harmony and peace within ourselves. Pain has a purpose. Accept it to allow it and release the need for it.
Empowerment is the quantum leap from victim mentality into healer mentality. We walk around saying “I’m sorry”, we are sorry for our own existence. We say “I’m trying” but we do not have to try. Change this language, instead say “I am doing my best!” Feel how powerful that is! When we say “I'm sorry”, or “I'm trying” it is filled with weakness not strength. We are not victims. We are meant to master our life. Every word you use inwardly and outwardly is your energy, your intention. Use that energy to empower yourself. Be conscious of the words you choose and reclaim your power.
We are empowered to heal ourselves. Our bodies want to heal. Our lives want to be in balance. Our existence wants to resonate with the harmony of nature around us. That is our original condition and our true state of being. You CAN heal. It is possible. Your whole life has lead you here, to this point. Your whole life has been waiting for you to come back to yourself. To be there for yourself. To Love yourself. Love is what heals. Not just any love but self-love, unconditional love, and love for all life. That kind of love is the most powerful medicine on earth. That kind of medicine does not just heal, it transforms. It becomes a healing force in itself. Walking forward with an open heart filled with unconditional love makes you not only healed, but you become something even greater, a healer.
Focus is the glue that holds every other piece together. Focus essentially means here, the law of attraction. What we focus on, we attract. If you focus on illness, problems, conflict etc. that's what will manifest. If we focus instead on wellness, opportunities, healing, peace, gratitude, we will experience more things in our life that mirror that. Pay attention to what you do want. This doesn't mean living in denial. Focus is the very opposite, it means becoming ultra-conscious not making our issues unconscious. This means recognizing the condition, the issue, facing it, sizing it up to understand it is not bigger than your power, it never was. Then releasing your need for what it has taught you. Releasing your attachment to it. Accept your responsibly for it, then focus your energy on what you desire. Focus on the solution, not the problem.
Language is powerful in this. Do not wish or want. Those words relay a sense of lack. You have to speak as if you have it already. As an example say "healing is already mine, it's waiting for me to create it, though I have not gotten there yet, I will" See it. Feel it. Know it. There is no try. Only doing. Only being, only allowing the natural flow. Do not try to force or make something happen. We cannot make anything happen. All we can do is allow it. Create the space for it and allow whatever comes to come, gratefully.
Learn to master your thoughts, emotions, beliefs. Uproot the emotional core like a weed. From there understand that if you Now believe you have created your pain, your illness, your patterns, and your issues, then you know that can un-create them. You can heal them. The most powerful focus we can have is Love and forgiveness, of ourselves and others.
You have to believe in your intentions. In your power. In your healing. You have to believe in the positive thoughts and emotions you are creating and their inevitable positive affect on your entire life. Do you best. Be compassionate with yourself. If you make a mistake or have a negative thought, just allow it and release it. This is a process, this is a journey to healing and with every step you are transforming yourself. Do not rush it. Do not shut the door in a few days or weeks if you do not see immediate affects and say “this isn’t working!” Continue through each step. Willingness, stay willing. Awareness, focus on the lessons. Acceptance, be grateful. Forgiveness, this is constant. Empowerment, you are not a victim. Focus, where your attention goes, energy flows. Create the life, the healing, the happiness and wellness you seek.

To see more on the Australian Aboriginal healing at work I greatly recommend checking out Secrets of Aboriginal Healing by Gary Holz, a man who was struggling with 2 years to live with severe M.S. which had bound him to a wheelchair who was welcomed into an Aboriginal tribe and walked out healed 10 days later going on to become a healer himself. It is a remarkable true story. |
