The human race is a curious species, part animal, part alien in our own world. We have the capacity for love and hate, for peace and for war, for logic and for insanity. We come from different backgrounds, different viewpoints, and different ways of living. Despite our many differences, we share a common experience, and a common search for peace, connection, fulfillment, and perhaps, when looking deeply; for truth.
Stop for a moment and consider the endless ineffable beauty of this life, all the opportunities available allowing us to grow, to learn, to experience this wide spectrum of choices and chances. Equally consider the great responsibility a life such as this implies. To understand that responsibility, we must first recognize just exactly how we are connected.
We live in a connected universe, this is the greatest law of the cosmos, as zen as it is factual. Every living organic molecule is literally interconnected; atomically, chemically, biologically and yes, even spiritually. This type of a world is constantly moving, with trillions of working pieces, to which each facet, including you, contributes. This world is a shared world, not passed down to us from our ancestors, but given to us by our children.
There are many issues the family of humanity is globally facing which must compel us to look deeper at what we can each do to return this gift in the condition which will secure a thriving future for those that gave it. There is war, poverty, hunger, suffering, destruction to the sacred ecosystems upon which the entire web of life relies; all of this begs us to now consider--what is truly important? Humanity is more than just the category, it is a quality; it means love, compassion, understanding, and the ability to act when life would be harmed or neglected without our intervention. We are at a time when the human race means we take humanity as an expression of connection and cooperation, not competition.
WHAT ARE WE REALLY RACING AGAINST?
Consider that 20,000 people a day starve to death, 45% of children under the age of 5 die for no other reason except that they live in a world so narcisitically imbalanced, so completely disconnected from the meaning of life, that these innocent children die of starvation. How can we ever answer for this? How can we continue on knowing that, without changing in some way? This is not about religion, or any belief, this is neglect at the most egregious levels. Consider that the United States has waged a "war on terror" for nearly two decades killing at least 1.5+ million people, many of which were civilians, women, children, people who had nothing to do with any of the backhanded political corruption, who were murdered all due to one of the most blatant and obvious staged lies in history; the false flag attacks of 9/11. Consider that megacorporations like British Petroleum and Monsanto spend millions "lobbying" in the capital to buy new rights to rape the once majestic landscapes of the irreplaceable and sacred body of our shared earth. This earth does not belong to any of us. We belong to her. There are oil lines leaking into 1/3 of the worlds fresh water sources, no one has a back up plan for what we will do when this water runs out. Species are going extinct at a rate of over 200 a day, which places us on the path of the dinosaurs. We must change, we must change individually, and we must change together.
HOW DO WE MAKE THE CHANGES THAT MATTER?
Consider that when you buy something, you are promoting that company. That companies ethics, morals, business practices, political views, and manufacturing methods. That company may be producing using cheap sweat labor in a distant country at the expense of human suffering and human rights abuses—this is the case more often than many people would like to accept. That company might be destroying rainforests or sacred land to offset the expense of packaging materials. That company might be funding lobbyists in Washington that are supporting Trade Agreements which prevent any legal barriers to hold them responsible for facilitating environmentally or socially responsible business practices in the future (such as the TPP which was just passed). This is all more important than many of us understand. Every dollar we spend is a vote, a vote for what we wish to elect. That is why being an informed consumer, not just in what we buy, but in every facet of our lives, is absolutely critical at this time.
As we see the issues as a whole, and understand our piece in all of this—we will change, we will evolve. It will requires critical thinking, it will requires research into the truth beyond the political marketing of the mainstream media. Understand that the media is placed by the current power system—that system is funded and sponsored by big oil, big military, big agribusiness, bigpharma, big insurance, and big healthcare, and therefore the media and political spokesmen support the systems which keeps it literally in business. The media acts as one of the most effective weapons to date, in that it comes at the very root of us, our consciousness. The viewpoint offered is the perspective that keeps those corporate power systems in place perpetually. We are what we believe, and what we do is based on what we think. Therefore billions a year are spent on shaping that viewpoint to bolster the system that is doing just fine if we don't see the truth. The urgent and compelling reality is that, we will need to find the truth independently.
Occupy your mind. We must change our perspective to change our lifestyle from the inside out. We cannot fix something if we do not understand the way it is broken. There is no need for fierce battles of will to display our autonomy. No need for standing in the streets and shouting. We simply have to see the truth, we are being used. Many aspects of how we live assist this status quo from our tax money funding the military industrial machine to our careless use of plastic disposable silverware; it is all connected, one aspect to the other, and we cannot continue on this way, or there will be nothing left that matters at all.
What we watch on TV, what we are told in the darkest institutions of indoctrination, what we are led to believe by biased news sources and bought elected officials, all endorse a broken paradigm, and a diseased way of thinking. Without us to continue fighting, without us dividing against one another according to lies and propaganda, feeding inescapable debt and profit cycles, using unsustainable energy sources, buying toxic products of insatiable mega-business, we will become something different entirely: a critical thinking, responsible, and effective answer to the question of who is truly in power. We can shift the dynamic of this seemingly insurmountable circumstance. And the changes we make, you and me, will change the world.
To become truly self-aware as a species, we will have to recognize that we are all connected; that any organism which destroys itself, will not survive. We will have to recognize the backwards ways we have been thinking and living, the innate self-destructive tenancies of modern society. We seek security through war. We seek sustainability through destruction of resources. We seek improved quality of life through a kind of perpetual slavery. We seek synthetic connection while disconnecting from what is directly in front of us. We would resent a man on the sidewalk, thinking, "why doesn't he just work like the rest of us", while forfeiting to the harsh reality of the wall-street billionaires club as they receive bailouts in the millions. We do not see the dirty faces of those neglected in the wake of capitalism, the poisoned waters on the shores of once beautiful beaches of corporate and consumer driven greed. There is so much work to do, and we the people need to wake up.
That is why love and understanding are some of the greatest tools we will ever employ to manifest real change. This is no impractical or superfluous aspect, it is in fact fundamental. Love and understanding are required to move beyond the broken paradigm of division, and into a cooperative model that has a chance to heal, to fix what is broken, and thrive. Understanding means looking at the bigger picture and becoming educated on the world around us, to understand how it operates, and how we each contribute to its health or disharmony.
Consider the implications of one powerful positive action, or one negative one. Look at how the world has been changed by one voice, one life, over and over throughout history. We do not need to have the greatest profound thought, or become some martyr to the ages; we simply need to become educated and self aware, and do the work to change how we are living in the most fundamental ways. What we do today can literally change tomorrow. The greatest movements acting as a catalyst for a meaningful revolution begin as the ones we make for ourselves, in our own lives. It is our personal revolutions that become collective ones.
That is why the great masters have said “be the change you wish to see in the world.” When you become aware of your connection to a larger collective organism in this universe: you become self aware, you become responsible for not only you, but for all life. This changes you, from a bystander into a powerful director of the energies of your life, a co-creator empowered to orchestrate real transformation in an otherwise synthetic and disconnected world. We can make progress in the race that matters; as a team, working together. That my friends is the only way.
If there is one thing I want people to understand, it is you are powerful beyond measure. All these issues we see in the world, the corruption of political systems used as tools of corporate greed, the environmental destruction we are too scared to think about because the vast extent of it just makes us feel small, the social injustices and human rights abuses that we can barely stomach other than to look away; we feel defeated before we even begin. But we do have the power, and we have had it all along.
What we do, feel, think, and put our energies toward, what we share, and what we withhold, our actions and opinions, what we use and what we throw away, in every sense each choice we make affects the world. That influence is spiritual, in that it is not only a material effect. The world is directly affected by the subtle energetic currents to which we each feed. We feed them with our love, we feed them with our hate, with our judgement and our acceptance. This is the kind of change we see as people realize why it isn't funny to bully or make fun of someone, why we have to evolve beyond the mentalities of prejudice of all kinds, and why we must refuse to buy into the division fueled through the media. Our influence is also highly practical, in a sense that physical affects are measurable, tangible, and visible in the environment and communities of life surrounding us. This is kind of change we see when people begin to grow their own food, refuse to buy products of irresponsible industry, and build communities based on support, trust, and cooperation.
We might begin to see through our own self-awareness that it is us who will change the world, whether we like it or not, so we have to do the right thing, make the choices and changes that will benefit not only ourselves, but all the life which we are connected to in this tapestry of existence. The pinnacle of self awareness is to achieve collective awareness, to live for something bigger than yourself. When we help others, we help ourselves. When we heal ourselves, we heal others. This principle is interchangeable both ways, and operates as a positive feedback loop. All it takes is a spark to begin.
THE ANSWER: WE CAN CHANGE, AND WE ARE CHANGING RIGHT NOW!
There is something bigger than you, than me; there exists (if nothing else) a rich and full network of life, and we are each an intimate and central part of that web. We affect every level of that web through every aspect of our daily lives, and we can either support the equilibrium necessary for the continuation of life, or support the continued disintegration of it.
Our level of awareness, consciousness itself is one of the greatest keys to making the shifts we need, not only to thrive as individuals, but to collectively heal this planet, heal the root issues humanity causes and faces, and evolve to a level of human activity that supports the web we are each connected to, meaning all life, every person, every creature, and every ecosystem which we rely upon, that is what it means to evolve as a species. And that is how we change the world, through becoming educated about the issues that matter, to become aware that business and politics are intertwined, that environmental issues and political corruption are connected, to recognize that we are a central component of the current system and as we change how we live, how we think, we will see the truth of that reality.
In an integrated web, every cause has an effect; this is both a daunting responsibility and an empowering mechanism for transformation. Every day we are given the gift of a hundred new chances to change the way we think, change the way we act, and through making those subtle shifts we can begin transcend the broken paradigms and create a new balanced model, one which implores us each to actively contribute to making the world better, through making ourselves better participants within it.
